Sugar Cookies

Sugar Cookies

Prep Time: 15 minutes | Cook Time: 14 minutes | Servings: 24 cookies

Ingredients

  • 1 cup butter, softened 

  • 1 ½ cups granulated sugar

  • 1 egg

  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour

  • 1 teaspoon baking soda

  • ¾ teaspoon salt

  • ½ teaspoon cream of tartar

  • additional ½ cup granulated sugar

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.

  2. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

  3. In a medium mixing bowl whisk flour, baking soda, salt, and cream of tartar. Set aside.

  4. In a large mixing bowl cream butter and sugar together for about four minutes until light and fluffy.

  5. Add egg and vanilla extract, beat for 1 minute.

  6. At a low speed, add flour mixture until just incorporated.

  7. Form 1 ½ tablespoon balls.

  8. Roll dough balls in additional sugar.

  9. Place cookie dough balls onto baking sheet about 1.5 inches apart.

  10. Bake for 8 minutes.

  11. Rotate pan and bake for an additional 6 minutes, or until edges are golden brown.

  12. Transfer pan to a wire rack and let cool for 10 minutes.

  13. Remove cookies from baking pan and let them continue to cool on wire rack.
