Buttermilk Biscuits
Prep Time: 20 minutes | Cook Time: 15 minutes | Servings: 9 biscuits
Ingredients
6 tablespoons butter, chilled and diced
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 tablespoon sugar
¼ teaspoon baking soda
1 tablespoon baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
1 cup buttermilk
Directions
Preheat oven to 450 degrees F.
In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.
Add diced butter to the flour mixture until it looks like coarse crumbs.
Add cold buttermilk to the flour mixture. Stir until dough is combined. It will be sticky.
Turn out dough onto a floured surface and pat down into a rectangle.
Fold dough over onto itself six times. Then pat down to about 1 inch thick.
With a 2.5 inch round biscuit cutter, push down to cut the dough and pull up (do not twist).
Place biscuits on a baking sheet, almost touching each other.
Bake for 12 - 15 minutes until browned.
After biscuits are baked, brush tops with melted butter.
